The purpose of the NHS is to create enthusiasm for scholarship, to recognize outstanding students, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote leadership, and to develop character in the students of secondary schools. Students who meet the eligibility requirements get invited to apply during their Sophomore year.

• Scholarship: Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or higher

• Service: Must have a minimum of 5 hours of community service

• Leadership: Has some leadership experience, in or out of school

• Character: Generally has a clean discipline record
