Athol High School

Athol High School educator recognized for superior dedication and achievement by the National Society of High School Scholars. Science teacher Latasha Sheffield who has supported the start of two new student clubs (Academic Decathlon and Mock Trial) at the school was awarded a School Club Cash Grant to support the work associated with these two clubs. Throughout the year, students from Athol High School will compete against other Massachusetts high schools in scholastic competitions through Academic Decathlon and those in Mock Trial will study a case, conduct legal research and prepare for a trial which they will ultimately be act out as a culminating event. Students or families looking to learn more about either club should contact Ms. Sheffield at lsheffield@arrsd.org

Dear AHS; a software glitch was identified with attendance on term 1 report cards. Our IT department has corrected these errors, which are now accurately reflected on report cards in our student/parent portals. If you wish to receive a corrected hard copy, contact our Student Services at guidance@arrsd.org.

Children's Advocacy Center will be facilitating beginning next Tuesday at VOC. This 6-week group for female-identified teens ages 12-17 will provide education, skill-building, and peer connection in a safe and supportive environment (with yummy snacks!). Topics include: risks girls face in person and on-line, healthy relationships and consent, MA laws governing teen sexting and non-consensual sharing of inappropriate images/videos, keeping self and friends safe, calming and regulating tools, and of course self esteem and empowerment.

AHS Welcomes you to the start of the 2024-25 School Year! We hope you have all enjoyed your summer, and are positively geared up for our first day of school tomorrow, Wednesday, August 27th. AHS doors open at 7:10am, with breakfast being served until 7:35AM. At 7:35 AM, all students will report to their Advisory class. Staff will be available as you enter the building to assist in helping you determine your Advisory class. In your Advisory class, teachers will provide students with their Term 1 schedules. Valuing Our Children's North Quabbin Patch Parents Council annual backpack drive will be happening August 1st and 2nd. We are encouraging families (who live in the North Quabbin) to pre-register for their backpacks. Pre-registration information can be found on the attached flyer.

Free meals will be available this summer for all kids and teens 18 and under at meal sites throughout Athol Royalston COMMUNITY! no sign-up or ID required. This summer, meals must be consumed on site with breakfast and lunch. Please see attached for locations and times

Quick MCAS Update: Current 10th Grade students will test on: ELA MCAS- March 26 & 27 Math MCAS- May 28 & 29 Physics/ Biology MCAS- June 4 & 5 In preparation for the Science MCAS, current 9th Grade students will complete a science benchmark assessment on March 26 & 27 at 7:40 AM. Current 11th and 12th grade students taking AP English Language & Composition, AP English Literature and Composition, AP US History or AP World History will participate in practice AP Testing on March 26 & 27 beginning at 8:00 AM. Any other 11 & 12 Grade students not testing will be working on a delayed opening schedule (Early College students will start at regular time). All AHS Classes will resume at 10:10 AM on March 26 and 9:40 AM on March 27. *Please note, buses will run at their normal schedules, students not testing who arrive prior to when classes resume will be offered breakfast and a space to study in the cafeteria. The results from the community vote from last night's lip sync are in....the winner is...THE SENIORS. Congrats Class of 2024 on the win and all of the classes and participants on one amazing show. Thank you to everyone that came out and showed the students and staff your support.

From Mrs. Sheffield: At Regionals yesterday, the kiddos earned 3 medals. Lyla Rae Williams won bronze in scholastic science Sarah Day won bronze in honors science and bronze in honors literature. She was also our team's top scorer. All of the students did extremely well, and I am so very proud of them! Our team: Sarah Day, Peace Osoro, Jaiden Santer, Pal Vyas, Lyla Rae Williams, Sean Kelley, Om Patel
